Why Donate Stem Cells in Cord Blood Banks?
The Cord Blood Bank of Canada is advising families and expectant mothers in the country to donate the umbilical cords of their babies to cord blood banks.
The cord blood bank society says those body parts would be discarded and thrown out anyways, so nothing would be lost if they would be donated to save people’s lives.

Through donating cord blood to a registered and authorized cord blood banking institution, the Cord Blood Bank of Canada assures that the baby and the entire family would be given access to blood bank services and therapies should they need one in the future.
Just like in the United States, Canada is also beginning to recognize the effectiveness and medical cure cord blood can give to patients who are diagnosed with serious diseases.
Cord blood and diseases
To date, medical research points out 75 unique and serious ailments or sicknesses that can be cured by cord blood therapy. These diseases vary from anaemia, to leukaemia to other ailments concerning the human body’s immune system
Some medical studies also suggest that cord blood can have the distinct medical qualities and properties that could finally treat the notorious Acquired Immune-deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). However, further research and studies will yet to prove the medical claims.
It is found that the umbilical cord, which serves as the life-giving and nutrient transfer connection between the baby in the womb and the mother, contains stem cells.
